Your travel and self-quarantine overview
The travel and self-quarantine rules also apply if you have already been vaccinated.
Overview of your trip:
Your destination: Brasil
Brasil currently has a very high corona risk where there is a virus variant of concern.
All details about travelling to Brasil during corona can be found in the detailed travel advice (information in Dutch).
(arrival in the Netherlands)
Currently, you must arrange the following before your arrival (back) in the Netherlands (if you are over 12). Even if you have been fully vaccinated, or have just recovered from corona:
Make sure you've filled in the quarantine declaration before you return to the Netherlands.
When you get home, you and your travel companions need to self-quarantine for 10 days:
(back home)day 0
Self-quarantine immediately to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
This means do not go outside, do not go to the store and do not go to work.
(test day)day 5
Get tested today for corona.
If the test comes back negative, you no longer have to self‑quarantine. But continue to avoid contact with anyone who may be vulnerable for a full 10 days after you return to the Netherlands.
If the test comes back positive, you have coronavirus. The GGD will provide you with additional information and you need to self‑isolate (information in Dutch)
If you did not get tested on or after day 5 and you have no symptoms, this is your last day of your self‑quarantine.
If you have COVID‑19 symptoms, stay home and get tested again.
Did you know you can't do your grocery shopping yourself, receive visitors and you need to work from home?
Frequently asked questions
Get tested at an official testing centre (such as a laboratory, doctor or health service) at your destination. Make sure the test meets the Dutch requirements.
Stay in your accommodation and avoid contact with others. You should also contact your local municipal health service (GGD) in the Netherlands and follow the measures and advice of the health authorities at your destination. The other members of your household and/or your travelling companions may also need to go into quarantine. If you no longer have any symptoms and you test negative for coronavirus you may return to the Netherlands.
Travelling abroad remains a risk. When you become infected abroad, you can infect others at home. This can also be another variant of the coronavirus. That is why it is mandatory to self-quarantine if you are returning to the Netherlands from a destination with a very high corona risk. After becoming infected with coronavirus it can take 10 days for symptoms to show. So it’s important to stay at home for 10 days. There are also people who have coronavirus without showing any symptoms at all. They could infect others if they don’t stay at home.
When you travel to a destination with a very high corona risk, you fill in the quarantine declaration before you travel back to the Netherlands. Even if you are covered by the exceptions, you fill in the quarantine declaration.
